INTERVIEW WITH JONATHAN BRANDIS BY AOL.

OnlineHost: Copyright 1996 Oldsmobile; licensed to America Online, Inc.
OnlineHost: Your hosts are MegK and Norma II (AOLiveMC13)!
OnlineHost: Jonathan Brandis has about eighteen years of acting experience under his belt, has starred on a major television series, has had lead roles in a number of films within the last few years, and he's not yet twenty-one years old! After starring for three seasons in "Seaquest DSV," he had the lead in three network television movies. Welcome!

AOLiveMC13: Welcome to the Celebrity Bowl, John!
JBrandis: Thanks!

AOLiveMC13: Let's start with questions from the audience:
JBrandis: OK!

Question: What is going to be your next movie?
JBrandis: I have a NBC movie airing on Monday night. It's called FALL INTO DARKNESS.

Question: Who is the most inspiring person you have ever acted with?
JBrandis: Roy Schneider was cool. I learned quite a bit from him. But I can't really think of one actor that really stands out.

Question: Jonathan, did you enjoy making the movie "Ladybugs?"
JBrandis: Yeah, I remember it being fun. I didn't want to dress up like a girl initially, because I was like this insecure 15 year old at the time.

Question: Can you tell us a little about your role in the upcoming movie "Fall Into Darkness?"
JBrandis: It's a suspense thriller. A murder mystery. It's about this girl who is framed for murder. And we don't know who did it. It stars Tatyana Ali and myself.

Question: Do you have a girlfriend?
JBrandis: Yes. Tatyana Ali.

Question: My brother attended a preview of "Ladybugs" with Rodney and enjoyed his comments. How did you prep for your role as a "soccer drag queen" in the movie?
JBrandis: I put on a wig. That's about it. The character wasn't really supposed to know how to act like a girl. So that part worked 4 me. I still dress in women's clothing occasionally.

Question: How did your meet your current girlfriend Tatyana?
JBrandis: We were both doing NBC shows at the time and we had mutual friends in show biz. So it just sort of fell into place.

Question: Hi from Maryland. Why did they take "Seaquest" off? It was the best family show on Sundays. Good Luck with whatever u do. Looking forward to your movie on Mon.
JBrandis: It wasn't doing as well as the network wanted it to do in the ratings. Probably because nobody was taking off their clothes or we weren't blowing up enough underwater vehicles. WHO KNOWS? I miss working on it sometimes, but we all had to move on. Which wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

Question: Do you ever wish that you had never begun your acting career? Does the notoriety and everything that comes along with it ever make you wish that you had a "normal" job? ~Alison
JBrandis: What's normal?

Question: There was a rumor about a "Seaquest" movie. True or False?
JBrandis: Yes!

Question: Jon, what music are you listening to these days?
JBrandis: Counting Crows, Snoop Dogg, Babyface, Primitive Radio Gods, Eric Clapton. A bunch of different kinds.

Question: Did you write the character developments in the dialogue in "The Siamese Dream?"
JBrandis: I did. I tried to convey as much of that through the words and subtext in that episode.

Question: Have you seen the shrine to you on the web and what do you think of it?
JBrandis: I haven't, JB. I will check that out though.

Question: Were you ever nervous when you started out in showbiz?
JBrandis: Not really. I was so young I really didn't have any real fears or hesitations about the business. It's when I got older when I realized how much it all meant.
JBrandis: I'm sorry if I'm misspelling. I'm typing this myself!

Question: You have done so many challenging roles. Which was the biggest challenge and why?
JBrandis: I don't think I have had my most challenging role yet by far. I think it's all about how much you love, understand and can relate to the material you are given.

Question: Do you view yourself as a sex symbol, because it seems as if you have achieved that status?
JBrandis: Not at all.

Question: Have you seen the "Seaquest" spin-off on the Internet, "Seaquest 2047"? It's at http://www.mgl.ca/~schiller/m and it features the character Lucas prominently.
JBrandis: That's funny. I'll look at that.

Question: Jon, are you excited to be here? =) Knowing all your crazed fans are awaiting for your......words? hee hee.
JBrandis: Yeah! It's cool to be here. I know you've probably all heard or talked to people claiming to be me on line. I'm here to set the record straight. THIS IS ONLY THE SECOND TIME I HAVE EVER BEEN ON LINE.

Question: What advice can you give to teens who want to get into acting or performing arts later in life?
JBrandis: Make sure it's something you really want to do. Get into classes in your school and try it.

Question: Jonathan, what would be your ideal role as an actor? How close have you come to playing that role?
JBrandis: I'd like to play Luke Skywalker in the next "Star Wars" movies. That would be cool!

Question: The good and the bad, you've portrayed them both. Which characteristic do you prefer?
JBrandis: The good.

Question: When you originally wrote "Siamese Dream," who were the psychic crew members? (As I recall, it was originally a 1st season script that was retooled.)
JBrandis: No, it wasn't a first season script. Me and David Burke came up with that in the second. The psychic crew members were Wendy and Dagwood.

Question: Which one of the many characters that you have played is closest to the real Jonathan?
JBrandis: None of them yet.

Question: Is there any way to get a hold of the "original" script (1st season) of "Siamese Dream?"
JBrandis: You can call Universal Television and you can probably get a copy.

Question: I used to be in LOVE with you. I really think I thought I was going to marry you. How do you deal with obsessive girls like I was?
JBrandis: My girlfriend throws them out into the street.

Question: Do you prefer making movies to having your own series?
JBrandis: I like both. I have more control on a series.

Question: Are you a computer genius in real life?
JBrandis: I am the farthest thing from a computer genius.

Question: Where was "Fall Into Darkness" filmed?
JBrandis: Vancouver, Canada.

Question: Is it more fun working with Rodney Dangerfield or Chuck Norris?
JBrandis: Rodney.

Question: Have you ever had the chance to act on stage or the theater much and if so how do/did you like it?
JBrandis: I was in a theater program when I was about 6 years old. I didn't like it as much as most actors do. Which is probably why I never went back to it.

Question: Are you going to make another martial art movie such as "Sidekick?"
JBrandis: Not planning on it. Who knows!

Question: Is there any way we can get autographed photos?
JBrandis: They have an address in some of the Teen Mags.

Question: Jonathan, do you take acting lessons?
JBrandis: I have a couple times. I don't like being told someone's interpretation of something that I do.

Question: Are you still interested in directing in the near future?
JBrandis: Absolutely!

Question: What do you enjoy doing with your spare time?
JBrandis: Having fun with my friends. Writing. Dis an Dat!

AOLiveMC13: We have time for one final question for Jonathan!

Question: Jonathan, was it difficult working with the mechanical dolphin in "Seaquest?"
JBrandis: Yeah, we also had a mechanical Roy Schneider That was tougher.

AOLiveMC13: Thanks for being with us and taking our questions, Jon!
JBrandis: It was fun. Watch Monday night!

AOLiveMC13: Thanks to the audience for joining us! Good evening!
